I have been playing this game for almost 3 years now. Unfortunately, I have never been able to pay for a premium or basic account, which allows you permanent membership in the land. Here is a summary.
You are in a land named Uthgol. You may choose whether you want to be a Humanoid (Subraces are: Minotaur, Orc, Ogre and Troll, Wandering monster is a Kobold etc.), Undead (Vampire, Mummy, Ghoul, Lich, Wandering monster is a Spirit), or Chimera (Gryphon, Wyvern, Phoenix, Spinx, Wandering monster is a Scarab etc.).
Social monsters are basically the monsters that make clans. You can have a lair, and interact and role-play with others in your clan.
Wandering monsters get no bonuses from leaders, as Social monsters do. They form grumbles, which they interact in.
The personalities are: Leader, Builder, Warrior, Shaman, Magical.
You must be a leader to start a clan.
You must be a builder to build, destroy and repair structures.
Warriors get bonuses to kill humans.
Shamans get abilities like heal.
Magicals get abilities like Fireball and Cold-breathing.
All actions are performed by small words. When you want to speak, you simply type:
say Hello
You growl, "Hello"
If you are speaking to a person, you would type this. In this example the monster is Gorfikt the Gryphon. (my character)
say to gorfikt Hello
You growl to Gorfikt the Gryphon, "Hello"
In game, there is a tutorial when you create your character, which explains the major mechanics in fine detail.
Lastly, when you are speaking there is a sort of a barrier called IC (In-Character) and OOC (Out of Character).
This is in character:
say I breath fire.
You growl, "I breath fire."
This is out of character:
say I chose fire breathing when I made this character.
You growl, "I chose fire breathing when I made this character."
When speaking out of character, you are expected to place brackets around what you are talking.
This is the correct for of that sentence:
say [I chose fire breathing when I made this character.]
You growl, "[I chose fire breathing when I made this character.]"
