Greetings,
Having just watched For a Few Dollars More and feeling in a Clint Eastwood kind of mood I took a look for any Wild West based MUDS out there but couldn't find any. I would have thought this scenario would be a pretty interesting one to develop, certaintly a nice change from the standard fantasy environment. The relatively lawless and individualist society would allow a diverse range of characters (sheriffs, bounty-hunters, farmers...whatever) and a range of "races" could be available (e.g. native indians, mexicans, American settlers. The traditional MUD concept of independent towns seperated by wilderness would be applicable but I suspect any Western MUD would have to be primarily RP based, for lack of "targets" for H&S. Specialist skills could range from the traditional (e.g. pickpocketing, farming) but combat would take a lot of thinking, as the normal several minutes of fighting gradually degrading the opposing NPCs or PCs would not work in a system supposed to represent a brawl or a fast-paced gunfight. I am no coder, just a player, so there is no way I could make this game but thought it might be an interesting concept. Ymorr the wannabe Lone Ranger |

One of our 4 Dimensions is set in the Old West, but it never was very popular among the players. It seems most players are very conservative, and prefer the usual medieval/fantasy setting, with futuristic as close second.
A pity, since our best zones are really in the pre-historic section, featuring ancient Greece and Egypt, and the Old west has a lot of potential too... |
