Hello!
I am looking for a MUD, and need help in finding one. I am hoping to find a mandatory role-playing MUD, that is completely original from the ground up: in theme, in ideas, in races, in players, in staff...you get the idea. I am really hoping for a role-play intensive MUD that has many of the features that I believe makes a RP MUD less focused on hack-and-slash (in fact, the less hack-and-slash, the happy I am). These means games with no levels or classes, no experience points, a physical body system (no hp, no mana, no move points...come on, you can be more inventive than that! naming or recognition system is a very big bonus, because I don't like the idea of seeing the name of the person I am role-playing with long before I would know their name ICly... but then, I don't like having to study and memorize a hundred or so dfferent long descriptions. Realism = Good. =D I like to see MUDs with a hard-working staff, because these are the most productive and usually those games are the funnest to play. Immersing and vivid descriptions for objects as well as people and places are cool. =D Slots suck. You know: <head> a hat <body> a shirt <legs> pants <wielded>a sword I don't want to see that. Especially that 'wielded' thing..ech! If I wanted to take my hat off and try to beat my opponent with it, I should be able to. That's my choice, isn't it? It's also good to remember that if the character I play only has two hands, I won't be running around with an inventory with 200 shiney things, if I had one of those boring listing inventories at all. X.x I like MUDs where money is an object just like everything else. I shouldn't be able to carry around three billion dollars in pennies unless I was bigger and stronger than the Statue of Liberty. Player-run everything. Homes, countries, kingdoms, land, economy. I like homes, and I have rarely found a decent MUD where I can own my own plot of land and do whatever I wish with it--be it plant a garden, make a harvest, or raise livestock. Also, economy is usually abused and very shabby. I'd like to see a dynamic fluctuating player-controlled economy. Hehe. Corpses are not containers. I'm sorry, but their not. Player-base doesn't matter, especially if the MUD is fairly new or is still in development. You havn't had time to grow. CRAFTING SYSTEM-- Well. Seeing as we don't have exp or classes or levels. I want to be able to play anyone imaginable, from a lowly thief, a rugged vagabond, a soldier, a blacksmith, a baker, a cobbler, an animal trainer, a....well, you get it. ------------------------------------------------------- It's been a while since I started this post, so I'm sure I may have missed some points I'd like to make, but I'm tired of typing and thinking...so..heh. I suppose now is a good time to throw in the fact that I have been to a few of the more popular MUDs, and have tried them. It's not that I don't like them (some of them I am actually very fond of), it is just that some of them do not have the features I would really like to see or the people that I would really care to RP with (*cough*twink-land*cough*), or that they do not currently have reliable service or connection. SOME of the games I have played... Accursed Lands (reccommended) Armegeddon (recommended) The Sea of Storms Dartmud (too OOCish at first glance, seemingly) The Shadows of Isildur Harshlands ------------------------------------------------------- Anyway, if you have seen a MUD that I have not tried and fills most or all of my criteria, feel free to send me an email at AlmondineStar@hotmail.com. =D Also feel free to email if you are planning any such MUD that might spark my interest and if you are a serious role-player. Or if you have AOL and role-play in that so-called community called Rhy-Din, you can email me for that, too. Hrm. AlmondineStar@hotmail.com |

Welp, sorry to disappoint you, but you've basically listed the best free RP MUDs.
AL and DM are the only two with most, if not all, of the features that you're looking for. |

Threshold is a RP required mud that you might want to try. Obviously, I am the creator of that game.
You can read our entry here or you can view our website at: http://www.threshold-rpg.com |

Since you mentioned you don't mind a MUD in development, I'd suggest that you take a look at The Cathyle Project.

As far as all of your other requests, they have either been implemented or are on the development list. Stop by "]http://www.cathyleproject.com[/url] for more information. |

A note about DM:
We have a LOT more newbies than we used to, most of whom haven't learned how to properly RP and tend to mix up their ooc/ic stuff. If you play for any length of time, you'll eventually get to hang around the more experienced players who know what they're doing, and what's acceptable and what isn't. You can't really judge the quality of the mud by a bunch of idiot newbies (I'm not saying all newbies are idiots so don't flame me, but a good lot of them seem to be So I hope you don't think we totally suck just because you hung around a couple of newbies who totally suck. |

As an Alpha Tester for The Cathyle Project, I suggest you take a look at the Forums. We're growing by leaps and bounds.
Armageddon is a very nice mud that fist most of your criteria, that I've been playing almost a Year. ALOT of fun, once you get the hang of it. Harsh, Brutal, DIRTY, but also amazing and Harshlands was alot of fun, and Accursed Lands was not shabby itself. But to Call DartMud RPI kinda hurts my feelings. RPI to me is to see someone slaughtering an innocent NPC, and my light-loving warrior would bash your ass and take up for innocents and the weak. NOT to run around slaughtering NPC's for thier gear or thier money, and get the "Its only a Mob..." response. Not trying to badmouth DM, but really... Just my own humble opinions, albeit thoroughly tainted by the other voices in my head. Have fun! And I hope to see you somewhere soon. |

Thanks people.
I think I'll drop by and take a good look at some of your suggestions. I am also pleased that AL is back up (mwhaha), so you people have made me pretty satisfied. Hehe. Thanks. ^.^ |
