I did when I was younger, but I stopped reading quite some time ago. I'm such a sucker for a good pun that I can ignore the ridiculous sexual overtones =).
Why... do you ask? |

Hrmmm, must have just skimmed over the 'overtones', though I really couldn't take the series past 'Man From Mundania'.
Anyways... Though I'm always on Accursed Lands I thought I might give an invitation to this cool MOO I ran across for those who like pure RP (or might like to try it for a change). It's based on the world of Xanth. You can pick many races or crossbreeds, will have a unique 'talent', which is usually picked and coded by the 'D|E/MO|ns' but you can make requests, and also your own home to design and retire to, be it a normal cabin, a cottage cheese or the remains of a house fly It seems decently large, with work in progress still going on, but with a very low player base (not yet being even listed on TMS yet). Info: Host - gap.kittybox.net Port - 1977 |

Xanth was very good, but I think it was stepping stone to some of his greater series.
The Phase books are great, and also have some puns, but more mature. The Incarnations of Immortality, are, in my opinion, his best works to date. Book #2, On a Pale Horse, just rocks. If you liked Piers Anthony, try Robert Jordan, who is a more mature, and less "puny" author with more of a dark side to him. Jordan is more serious, and it shows in his writing, and also in his characters. While you may have giggled at Piers, you'll roar in rage when reading Jordan. I've played a Xanth and a Jordan based mud (Wheel of Time) and find them both interesting. Hoop |

Discworld is what leaves me holding my sides when it comes to fantasy books. The Wizardry series by Rick Cook is very good as well, and I think any MUDder would love it. Mixes the world of programming and fantasy together.

When it comes to light fantasy reading, I tend to steer away from "comic fantasy" and go to children's authors like Brian Jacques, Lewis Carrol, Roald Dahl, etc. (Speaking of which, I just read Neil Gaiman's Coraline, a quite enjoyable children's book.) I want my adult fantasy to have plots, characters, and settings that are both complex and internally plausible. Examples might be Robert Jordan (*sighs* I'm loyal), Robin Hobb, George R. R. Martin, Guy Gavriel Kay, and -- from all I've heard and hope to confirm -- Steven Erikson. That said, I can't wait for future Discworld books. Vimes and Granny Weatherwax are two of my favorite characters in fantasy. Terry Pratchett is a master at catching you off guard, even though you go in knowing what type of humor to expect.
Well, I think I've gotten enough plugs into one reply to call it quits. |

I'd have to say his Cluster and Tarot series far surpassed the Xanth. Then again, they were written for a much older audience.
