Emperor Talus Kahar XIV is dead, a victim of the Dark Pox that spread from the Shadow District. His orphaned son is too young to take the throne. The Imperial Council, acting in the Crown's stead, has lost its grip on authority in the realm of Fastheld. With the backing of the Church of True Light, the Tribunal and many soldiers in the Emperor's Blades, the nefarious Fanghill nobleman, Zolor Zahir, has staged a successful coup to seize the throne and declare himself the first Emperor from House Zahir. Thus far, the transition has been relatively bloodless. But not all support the new regime. Some think it is a blasphemy of tradition that anyone should lead the realm but House Kahar. Others may not mind the ascenscion of another noble house to power, but they fear Zolor Zahir, a man with a dark reputation and menacing demeanor. What will become of the realm in the coming months? Will it be a time of new growth and strength? Or will it be the beginning of the end for Fastheld?
