While I'm afraid I'm not at liberty to publicly discuss many aspects about our project, I would like to place a hook out here and see what sorts of bites it might attract.
What I can tell you is that we're a completely custom code based mud, aiming to produce a large professional (but as the current plans read, free) game. We are a few years into our project already, and are at such a point that major portions of the engine are complete, and creative development is right around the corner. For those who enquire about assisting, I can share more information, and provide a tour of sorts. *What we're looking for are 1) Creative writers 2) Creative thinkers/designers 3) Programmers with any one or more of the following: Java, XML, MySQL (or general SQL) experience. (C++ and C# experience is close enough that, assuming you're a moderately quick learner, we can show you what to do). If you know Java GUI (Swing, AWT, 2D) that’s a plus. Up until now we've been very "private" (or paranoid if you prefer) about most aspects of this project, including those we look at for joining our team. We're very close nit. For those looking to get into a situation in which they can last for a long time and make a large difference, this could be an option for you. This is a casual project, as we all have a lot of “real” stuff we do (this is one reason we’re exploring the possibility of more people; to speed up production). But we do expect everyone to be able to put in a few hours each week. I’m also deliberately cutting out a lot of information that I originally placed in this post, as I tend to ramble. *A bit more about the "positions." Those descriptions are fairly vague, but that is mostly intentional. The “creative writer” is most like your “builders,” but so is, to an extent, your “designers.” There are other tasks everyone is expected to assist on, some of which are a bit menial. For the programmers, you’ll be working with at least four other people and we keep our work fairly professional (as most of us are professional programmers and software developers).
