Besides Armageddon? Laughable.

I kid. Armageddon is superior in it's field, but SoI is fun sometimes, as is Harshlands, though neither are quite my cup of tea.

Age of Reptiles isn't really in the same league as Armageddon, but it is constantly in character and is quite amusing.

I've found Arm lacking in some ways, though the same applies to the other two RPIs, Harshlands and Shadows of Isildur, as well. Each has its own strength. Code-wise, SoI is superior. Harshlands has a more realistic environment. Arm has the larger playerbase. These differences are slowly changing though as SoI's pbase rapidly grows to challenge Arm's numbers and Harshlands incorporates SoI's code.

Depending upon what player you encounter, the quality of RP will vary on each of them. I've had good RP encounters on all 3, but also poor RP encounters as well. I've never had a character killed on HL or SoI, but it's happened twice on Armageddon, once without any RP whatsoever (not a good sign, but I won't call this the norm).

I set out to analyze RPI MUDs some time ago, and tried to "rate" them via code (features, options, etc), world design, staff and player quality/size, and role-play. HL ended up with a 91.0% rating, SoI a 90.5%, and Arm an 88.5% (they each had their own strengths) based on the features and quality I was looking for, if such numbers really signify anything.

Take care,

Jason

Which RPI is the best? Well, that answer will be difference depending on who you ask.

My decisions would be based on my experiences with the staff, other players, etc. When it comes to mechanics, I couldn't judge, as I have no clue what is what when dealing with stuff like that. Even though I haven't played Armageddon is some time, I'd still put that on the top of my list. I've had good experiences with the other players in character and out, the staff is very involved in every aspect, and the helps are very thorough and informative....well I can go on and on, but I'll stop here.

I have (or had, in one case) a character on each of the other RPI's that I know of: Harshlands and SoI. And I have my reasons for not really playing in either game. Harshlands' playbase seemed pretty low, but the game still had its pro's. Unfortunately I can't think of any since it was quite some time since I last played. I had to stop playing because of my darn RL. I wouldn't mind going back one day, though. As from SoI, it's also good game. I still subscribe to their updates and I like how they are constantly updating crafts and such and run several RPTs. I haven't played there in a while, though. I guess since a character concept I had didn't come out as planned, I'm still a little sour.
