Midkemia Online, the official MUD of NY Times best-selling author Raymond E. Feist's series of books focusing on the world of Midkemia and the multiverse within which it exists, is seeking volunteer builders to assist with development of the world. Iron Realms Entertainment is developing and publishing this MUD and successful applicants will be using its building system. This is the only MUD in the world based on his books, as Iron Realms has been granted an exclusive license by Mr. Feist to use his work.

Requirements
* You must be possessed of an excellent sense of grammar and spelling.
* You must be familiar with the world of Midkemia. The initial time period for the game will be after "A Darkness at Sethanon" (end of the first Riftwar) but before the events of "Shadow of a Dark Queen" (beginning of Riftwar).
* You must be reliable. Unreliable help is worse than no help at all!
* Gotta love text MUDs.
* Must be willing to sign a standard Non-Disclosure Agreement stating that you will not pass on information about the game.
* Must be at least 18 years of age.

Experience working on at least somewhat populated MUDs is a bonus.

How to apply
Send an application to matt (-at-) ironrealms (-dot-) com. I will pass qualified applications along to Midkemia Online's producer for further consideration. Please include the following in your application, on separate lines:
* Your real name
* Age
* One description each for:
a. An ice cavern.
b. A dark-skinned crewman on a ship.
A single spelling or grammatical error in either of these would disqualify you, so proofread!
* Your email address (please include it IN the emailed application).
* Any previous building experience you've had.

Come work with us! All but one of our paid people started as a volunteer, and based on experience with us, volunteers have gone on to jobs in the mainstream games industry (Matrix Online...unfortunately, the in-development Star Trek Online, etc). All our up-and-running MUDs have great admin communities (even taking vacations as a group sometimes), and Midkemia Online is shaping up to be no different.

Email matt (-at-) ironrealms (-dot-) com if interested, and I will pass qualified applications along to Midkemia Online's producer for further consideration. Thanks!

Quick examples of the building system you'd use:

1. Login to WebOLC. The WebOLC is mainly used for mob-related stuff presently, as well as for some overall project management. You can see activity for you specifically on the upper right (all 0 for me as I don't work on Achaea directly anymore). From here, you could start a new mobprog, a new oact (oacts are ObjectActions), or look at ongoing building projects.

2. Projects. All building now takes place within a project (this is a relatively new addition). These are self-tracked by the project system. Here's the project overview page. You can see the various projects there, and can expand any of them to get more info.

3. An individual project overview looks like this. You can expand each element to get more info, or more sub-categories that can themselves be expanded.

4. There's a link there to more information on Karbaz. Clicking on it will take you to the Achaean wiki, where areas get documented. Here's an example of what the documentation page for NPCs for an area looks like. Each NPC has an entry. Similarly, each quest will have an entry on the quest page, and each item in the area will have an entry on the items page. (Stuff blacked out as area isn't released yet.)

5. From the wiki, you could click on the Prog link shown on the above image, which would take you to a mobprog on the WebOLC. This isn't the same prog, but you get the idea. The prog language is very competent, allowing for everything from simple fed-ex quests to word games to a full theatre written with it that permits players to operate as actors complete with costumes, props, admission, sound effects, box seating for privileged patrons, etc. Full revisions system, etc.

6. When you're creating oacts for attacks, you might look at a screen like this one. The action string on the bottom indicates that this action does damage of the damage_poison type, and also freezes an enemy.

7. Finally, you might want to examine the progress on your area, over time:

There's lots more, including a fair amount of "in-line" building stuff (ie done on the MUD itself), but this is the kind of thing you'll be working with. Organization, organization, organization!
