Hello, a new project called Elvana has recently begun and we are always looking for people who want to join the project so let me briefly outline the concept for you.
The world of Elvana is a speculative futuristic world where three races exist. The Elvani, Orci and Hu'Mas. Tolkien with a twist I suppose. It's a hard science concept though, with the Elvani having evolved and established a civilization in their ancestral grounds. A massive community on the continent that would one day become the mega city 'Motherholme'. The Elvani in what we would consider the technological period of the 1700's began exploring the rest of Elvana where they found the Orci whose society resembled that of our ancient Aztec culture. Having never encountered another sentient species before the Elvani discovered themselves to be highly xenophobic and soon returned with an armada which they used to enslave the Orci and deported them back to Motherholme. In this period of history one of the 7 Elvani dynasties rose to dominance and gave birth to an emperor who subjugated the other 6 dynasties and decreed the Orci slaves of the Empire. This reign lasted for over 600 years until an Orci called Char'Gunda escaped slavery and rallied an army that eventually overthrew the Emperor and his dynasty, setting the Elvani themselves free as well as his fellow Orci. His Elvani wife gave birth to the first Hu'Mas, a half-breed. 200 years later the game takes place in a world of futuristic technology where things like flying cars are common place (think Fifth Element to have a better picture). In this world the body is highly revered and controversial biological discoveries and genetic experiments are changing everything as this new field fast gains popularity. Religion and technology and highly dynamic social structures make this an exciting role-playing opportunity. We have a strong team foundation with our coders currently designing an original java code base built on socket mud. The list of features planned seems endless so let me share some of my favorites. Mounts - exclusive zones for players with vehicles that speed up the their journey's around the city. Robots - Players will be able to construct/purchase NPC Robots that will have skill sets unavailable to players. Player run economy - Players will be able to run the game's economy, with an economy editor. Grow plants - You'll be able to grow crops and flowers in greenhouses as a business or perhaps as a hobby. Huge skill sets - Hundreds of skills to learn that directly affect the player. In-depth Clans - Pivotal to the whole game is our incredibly detailed Dynasty system where players get dynasty only quests and missions as well a political system that gives players powers in the game. Epic Storylines - Huge storylines that will bring players together for global and dynasty only events. This even extends to our beta stage which will have players participating in an adventure that will echo into the final game, where our beta players will forever be remembered as heroes. We are looking for team members who want to be involved in the creative input of a project, and not mindlessly work away on a project that will be otherwise unrewarding to any other person. There’s a variety of work available, our established coding team takes applicants who can code in Java. We also have a design team that works on the implementation of the game's features, as well as formulating them. We are also organizing a building team and looking for a head builder to join the three founders of the project and head that building team which will be using TCL, a fairly easy to learn scripting language thanks to how it will be integrated with an in-mud editor. Finally we are also looking for a website administrator to develop and maintain our site and wiki which will be integral to the project as players will be able to access their accounts from the site and participate in competitions to win in game items and enter fan fiction contests. My email address is dygash -AT- gmail.com feel free to email me if your interested in joining or alternatively visit the MUD at elvana.co.uk port 4000, there is usually one of the team on at one time or another, if not more, its a great team and we are hopeful that those who apply we only add to the great bond between us all. Kind Regards Luke Hill/Dygash p.s. On entering the MUD, for the next few weeks we will be on a circlemud codebase whilst our original java codebase is in development |

Re: Elvana - Staff Positions Avaliable
[The next three blog entries are from the last few weeks, I maintain this blog on mudmagic and TMC but I forgot about the one on TMS, sorry about that so here are the latest three entries, there will be weekly entries thereafter.]
------ I know I'm posting this a little early, what an hour? But well I've got so much to say and I'm so damn excited I wanted to tell you all about it right now. FIrst off let me just say we are still looking for builders to join me and Aerialin on the project, arn't we all though? And despite the team of 4 coders we have aquired we are happy to take on those with java coding experience, theres plenty of work for you on our java codebase which we are basing on socketmud. The codebase is coming on well and we are looking to move over to it in the next week or so from Circle. Now to the webcomic, we just welcomed to our a team an artist who will be drawing an 8 panel strip, granted that all goes well we will hopefully end up having a weekly comic strip on the website: Elvana website link (Did I mention we are still looking for a website developer and/who is also a web administrator?) We have a storyline we are developing for our beta phase (whenever we get to that phase) and the idea of the web comic primarily is to develop the buildup story arc to those events which the players will be able to participate in. During and after beta, the webcomic will chronicle in game story events, so players will get featured as characters as well as their deeds in some of the strips. I'll announce the link to the first strip and when it will avaliable on next weeks blog update. And just a quick reminder of how you can contact me about joining the project; first off I always recommend trying to contact me via IM. calieus -AT- hotmail.com (this is not to be emailed as its a spam account) This email can be used on gTalk, MSN, AIM and Yahoo Messengers. They all connect to MSN users now so try me there first. If I'm not around (and I will be within 24hrs) then head over to the MUD; elvana.co.uk 4000 Theres usually someone from the team around who will greet you and be able to talk to you a little. 3rd and final option is to email me at: dygash -AT- gmail.com Looking forward to all you applicants (especially you builders) Kind Regards Luke Hill/Dygash |

And the wheels on the MUD go round and round until :o
Aie aie aie aie aieeeeeee, do you know what I hate? You move to China for your new job, thinking "Hey, I'll only be a few weeks then I will be back online with more time and more resources for Elvana than ever before, I'm sure the gang can handle things till then." Before you know it complications arise, the computer doesn't work, you get it repaired...then it STILL doesn't work, second times a charm right? Then your madly doing stuff trying to find out how to buy some freaking coffee so you can wake up early for the project meetings and when you finally get coffee...where's the milk?
ect. But on the upside it was a fantastically smart choice, now I have even more time on my hands (and I had a considerable amount back in England) and I'm stable for the next year and onwards. The team is regaining momentum after our slight torpor and we are moving over to our custom database as of tomorrow *touch virtual wood*. The comic has had serious delay's however and we are still no where near ready to publish but it's exciting to watch the drafts take shape. So whats the good news Doc? Well we have two very very cool creative pieces which will be serial published on the game site Index of / , one is the journal of an unidentified scholar and explorer who discovers the planet Elvana after a seemingly great war which has destroyed much of the world, where it seems none are left to tell the planet's story. It is up to this explorer to discover the pieces and put them together to learn the secrets of the Elvani and the great tragedy that befell them and their home. This piece will be great insight material and more entertaining than trawling through our wiki which will continue to be updated as we create more of our world. So creative project number two is something that is going to be a text in game as well as something we will be showing on the site. It is the Elvani's equivilent of our Torah/Koran/Bible, albeit not as in depth or long I must admit. it will give players to be a taste of the world they will be entering, the mythology of the Elvani's religious beliefs, their demons, their gods and hidden within its pages lie many secrets, secrets which will be emerging over the course of the gameplay. Now about the new codebase, when I say new I mean fetus new, not some new born baby with all its parts ready to fill with knowledge. But it's important that we leave CircleMUD behind as it gives the wrong impression of our projects direction. So don't show up expecting places to explore and things to do. The only people we are asking to register a username on our ALPHA STAGE project, are people who want to be a part of the team. And please first try and add me on MSN or Yahoo first (calieus@hotmail.com for both), but I'm sure plenty will ignore this last part and sign up anyway ![]() So now to the business at hand, the following are people I am desperatly seeking, yes that's right folks you read desperate, of the kind meaning "I need you as of last month desperate". * Website Administrator (You need to be experienced at developing and handling databases as we are planning alot of communication between the game and the site; for example logging into the site and reading your in-game communication messages and sending your own back.) * Website Developer (We want to look professional and who doesn't? Worst comes to worst then I will be hiring professionally, but if this sounds like your cup of tea (joe for you americans * Java Programmers (enough said and no trainees, although I don't discourage the eagerness to learn, hey I AM a teacher, we really can't afford to give anymore resources up in training you at this moment in time, as we are already training a few college students in java. We need programmers who are experienced with Java programming, you'll be working with Kowi and Esper on the database and you couldn't ask for two better team leaders, mentors or friends. Because we are about being friends as well, talent is great, but people we can like as well would be a whole LOT better.) * ARTISTS!!!d!!e!!s!!p!!e!!r!!a!!t!!i!!o!!n!!! (Oh come on you know you love it I'm desperatly seeking lo...concept artists. We need a conceptual artistry team, a group of delta talents to bring the colour of life into our species, buildings and Motherholme herself. We also need to expand our comic team as we are now looking at a monthly 8 panel strip unless we can find some talented folk to join Swen on his mountain of work. You'll be creating a comic serial that will be the prequel to our Beta Game. (Beta has its own storyline seperate to the game itself) Comic Prequel --> Beta Prequel --> Elvana Begins.) |

Elvana - Staff Positions Avaliable *BLOG*
It's that time of the week again, she's moody, grouchy and...well hold on she's a he, me! And I'm grouchy coz I'm getting over the flu. But enough about me...let's talk Elvana.
A big welcome to Vybest a new programmer on the project, it's always nice to have more programmers about, it means YOU get to play Beta phase that much sooner and FYI don't expect beta to be announced until next year, late spring if we run at a good pace, though we arn't working to a time frame. We are now on a new dedicated server just for Elvana which is very cool, it means less problems in the long run. Other that its been a quiet week with our heads down working, our code monkeys chained to their keyboards and yes even me finding the energy to write this: http://www.elvana.co.uk/index.php?op...56&Itemi d=31 and some in game material. Btw don't try and join the forums yet, some bug is preventing activation emails from being sent out. As usual we are looking for coders, builders, artists and graphic designers and especially a website developer. To limit the large number of people coming into the game only to leave when they find nothing to do (SHOCK HORROR - morons) we will be implementing a password in the character creation system soon and provide the password in these staff ads so that most likely only those looking to join our team will be showing up and we wont get so annoyed when we drop everything, try to contact said new person only for them to suddenly disconnect without a word. We've had around 70 of these in something like 2 months. And because first impressions count that's most likely 70 people who won't come back and check us out when the game actually does open to beta. See I AM grouchy anyway from Team Elvana and myself in China where they actually celebrate this 'Happy Mid-Autumn Day'. |

Re: Elvana - Staff Positions Avaliable
Well this is a few days late but allow me to explain why, because this project has had the best week ever.
WE HAVE A GRAPHIC ARTIST!!! Sorry I just wanted to get that out of my system, been searching for months. He's amazing at both painting and drawing, and we will start to see the first renderings in the next few days, so I am sure I will have pictures to share at some point in the near future. Now for those who have tried to access the site the last two weeks, well last week it went down over the weekend to change DNS but never came back up, this was due to a power surge with the computer blowing the power supply. We are repairing it and will be back soon hopefully. Thankfully the mud server is in another location. We also have a new team member, hello to Peri, he has joined us as a concept developer working with me. Still searching for a skilled website developer, artists (for the webcomic) and c++/java coders. Cheers Luke Hill/Dygash |

Re: Elvana - Staff Positions Avaliable
Well this will the last announcement from me and team Elvana. We are abandoning the MUD not because its too much work or we have not acquired enough skilled personnel. Far from it, no instead we have decided to found a game design company and 3 weeks ago we began the groundwork for turning Elvana into a 3d single player PC game. If you want to follow our progress over the coming months and hopefully years we will provide alot of development content for our forum community at:
Main Page - ElvanaWiki But from Team Elvana to TMS we wish everyone the best of success and good fortune,. Goodbye. |
