This is a discussion on "The Sims Online" in the Top Mud Sites The Break Room forum :

First it got renamed to EA-Land, and now they're shutting it down: EA-Land Blog I find it both amusing and frustrating actually. I never played TSO, but I well remember EA pouring resources into it at the expense of Earth & Beyond (which I rather enjoyed) because they thought it would be a better bet in the MMO market. Now I can't help but wonder what would have happened if they'd concentrated on E&B in the first place, as although it wasn't as detailed as EVE it also felt a lot less ...

Re: The Sims Online

I'm telling you guys, EA is doom for any MMO that comes under its wing. They have the most bizarre ways of dealing with several issues that involve MMOs. I fear for Warhammer Online, especially since I love Mythic and I love Warhammer. *emo*

Re: The Sims Online

EA is a graveyard for MMOs. LOL @ EA-Land. I don't know what is more pathetic:

1) Someone at their company actually came up with that HURTING name.

2) Someone higher up than that person approved it.

The Sims Online was a massive disappointment. I understand that. But at least it had some name brand recognition and some cachet. EA Land sounds unbelievably stupid. Who the heck would be attracted to a game called "EA Land." It sounds like the name for an EA Corporate Retreat.

How many MMOs has EA destroyed now?
  1. They slaughtered at least two full fledged attempts at creating Ultima Online 2.

  2. Earth and Beyond.

  3. Motor City Online.

  4. The Sims Online / EA Land *chortle*

  5. And god knows how many other MMOs that were killed in the womb before their unholy birth.

What a disaster.

And yes, this also worries me for Warhammer Online - a game I am actually looking forward to because I loved DAoC.
