This is a discussion on "TopMudSites LIst" in the Top Mud Sites Bugs and Suggestions forum : I just had some musings about the TopMudSites list. It seems this list greatly benefits the MUD's with the most players on it, not necessarily the ones that could be the best out there. So is that the purpose of this list? Also, what is the point of making the list restart every now and then, and why allow people to vote every twelve hours? Why not just allow everyone to vote just once, and why reset the list too? Since all the MUD's listed regain their original spots anyways, what's the point of it? Just some ... |

The list is just supposed to reflect the number of people voting for each MUD. Since the definition of "best" MUD is highly subjective, there is no real way to measure the quality of a MUD objectively relative to other MUDs (especially those unrelated in theme and/or genre).
The list is also supposed to reflect the current situation. If the votes did not reset once every 15 days, a MUD that was once very popular for several years would remain in a top position long after its pbase abandoned it. |

Thing is, by allowing people to vote twice a day it doesn't reflect the number of people voting for the site. Some people will vote once, some will vote twice, some every day, some only on weekends, etc. The list doesn't really reflect anything, if you think about it.
Regardless, it's interesting to see different games up there on the top 20 every so often, even though the top 2 or 3 are always the same after the first few days of the reset. |
