Why of course we play. And play it well. In the years since I have mudded, old lady that I am, I have seen an increase in the number of true female players, not males playing women. All right, you can't always tell, but when you meet them face to face at a mud meet..... I remember being the lone female at a table rolling dice (I was usually god though (game operations director, aka GM, or DM)). I am woman hear me roar!!!!!!! |

Yes I am female. No I am not a male just taking estrogen to raise my voice and grow boobs
You know...there was this guy that told me..."you are not a girl. There is no way possible. Girls don't know how to MUD..." Ended up kicking his arse in arena... |

When I started mudding, the majority of players were University students who were studying computer-related subjects. That field of study tends to be extremely male-dominated, so hardly surprising there were very few female players.
These days the internet is widely available to everyone, and I think that tends to be reflected by the ratio of male/female players. |

I think you're also gonna find that the results are going to be slightly skewered on the forums, just about all the lady admins I know read and post on sites like this, but only a few of the guys do.

I tend to agree with Koryon on that the results might be a little skewered, but I don't think it'll be too bad.
Until I went to last summers meet for my mud a lot of the people actually thought I was male. Imagine there shock when a female with long blonde hair comes strolling up the path to the campgrounds (well they were all sleeping because in was 5 am when I got there, so technically when they woke up |

At the risk of sounding sexist, I think there's another reason why females may outnumber males. You'll most likely get a similar number of both who work outside the home for a living and play after work or from work; but even today, the majority of parents staying home to take care of young children are females. This means there are more of us who have the free time to be able to be here.

A former player on the mud I play was fond of quoting, "There are no female mudders". It irritated the females on the mud quite a bit.

I used to run into people who refused to believe I was female because I am a MUD admin, code, etc. However, they slowly adjusted, or at least learned not to disparage the gender of the girl with the slay button.
