This is a discussion on "Another license violator?" in the Top Mud Sites Legal Issues forum : Rauvyon MUD is a DIKU derivative who is accepting 'major' donations and has removed all or most of the DIKU credits. Am I crazy or are they are in violation?... |

I am curious. What proof do you have that their MUD is a DikuMUD? Or are you perhaps just trying to start a flame war?
Before accusing anyone to break the law you might want to consider finding some proof first. As it is now your post is nothing but a flame bait and typical trolling behaviour(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Internet_trolling). Edit: A side note here. Just because a MUD might have the "Diku feel" doesn't magically make it a DikuMUD. Of course many custom MUDs are inspired by Diku which has some nice properties. If we were able to shutdown all MUDs with the "diku feel" the genre would soon stop evolve. It would die. In the case of MUDs you'll usually see similar interfaces. It is the same as when you use Microsoft Word and OpenOffice. In many ways they are alike, in many others they are different and have their own story and style. Also as yet a side note. DIKU don't have sole rights to the MUD concept. Richard A. Bartle was one of the early inventors of MUD and he let the concept be free. |

In zMUD they are listed as "[Custom] SOD. Fully multi threaded." so you get the idea that it is a custom engine. Sorry for accusing you ShadowMaster |

Actually thats the whole reason I posted. They listed themselves on every MUD listing as 'custom'. I had to email the TMC admin to have them change it to DIKUmud.
If you type donation in game you can see they are making money and have been for some time. They are rewarding those accounts that donate with varying color coded 'stars' but we all know the imms won't give them special treatment No biggie, if they are in compliance, great, but reading them listing themselves as 'custom' everywhere made me believe they might be doing worse. |
