I am having problems with a ex-coder threatening me, he claims he has power on here and on Mudconnector to get me banned from posting my mud. Now mudconector has written back to me saying he has not power there. I am wondering what can be done? Second he has gone into my shell and wiped it stole all our areas and refuses to hand them over. What can be done about that? Just Curious...

That's technically hacking, but...

Jesus, such stories get posted at least once a week either here or on TMC. Doesn't it ever occur to all of you people that the departure of a staff member mandates a removal of all their accounts and the change of the shell password immediately, even if the staff member leaves without a grudge?

Rule one when having someone access the shell. After they leave or at the first instance of trouble limit their ablility or if they have left delete their user name. As for getting you banned from posting your MuD I strongly doubt that any one person that would even be so imature to threaten anyone has the power to do that. The area stealing you can't really do much but post a warning to the MuD community that these areas were stolen.

Also. you should have backups of your MUD ftped to your own personal computer at least once every few days. And, you should write those to disk or CD every once in a while. IMO it's better to have too many copies of the MUD around, than too few, since I know I can always come up with new and better stuff even if it gets stolen.

Also, I would STRONGLY urge you to do things in this order:

1. Decide to get rid of person X.
2. Back things up.
3. Remove person X's. access
4. THEN tell person X that they're gone.

Also, make sure that person X isn't logged in atm, but you can fix that by killing appropriate processes....
