This is a discussion on "Anyone know of any free..." in the Top Mud Sites MUD Administration forum : Hello! I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good -free- mudhosting sites or shell accounts? And I do mean absolutely free, no "send us one dollar," because that is just too much offer for a handfull of pennies. I am not looking for top-notch super-duper quality. I am beginner. I am so much of a beginner that I don't know which way is up in the MUD world from an admin's point of view. I just want something I could use to have a bit of fun with and practice on, maybe ... |

Hello!

You do realize you can format your own computer to be a linux server, right? That'd be about the cheapest you can get.

I've heard of people doing that, but I personally do not know
how to that. I know how to move about on the internet more than I do about getting through the wonders of Windows. |

As much as I'm opposed to it, because Windows is a poor server OS, you can actually compile, with minimal hacks, most mud servers with Cygwin.
