This is a discussion on "Mud Domain IMC2 Network Now Opened" in the Top Mud Sites MUD Announcements forum : In wake of the collapse of the Mud2Mud IMC2 network Mud Domain has opened their own network. The hopes of Mud Domain and its staff is to create a network that is more community run then past networks. Now we realize that not just anyone should have access the hubs that is not what we mean by community run. What we mean is the community will moderate itself so there will not be a long set of rules to agree to or anything like that. Also everyone has input on where the network is going to go. So if you ... |

Paradigm is an affiliate, so I am going to offer some constructive critiszm, rather then yelling.
It is best to not make such negitive comments towards the other networks, especially when the network you feel you are taking the reigns of was once ran by the same guy running another private/closed network. In other words, next time do not compare your work or the work of another public networks to that of a private one. They are not ran the same for rather good reasons. |

Ntanel, that comment probably should've been served privately. As an outsider, I saw it as nothing more than you snipping at an 'affiliate', as if you hold more power than he. In essence, you came off more power hungry than a politician.
As I said, I admire the attempt at making a community run network, but they have failed in the past because ONE person has too much power somewhere. Let it be someone who runs the website, or someone who runs a few hubs. Someone gets to the point where they are controlling, and they have power. Instead of using the mask of a 'community run network', why not instead say a 'network cared for by someone impartial and responsible'. I'm not here to put down anyone. I'm here to make a point. I've thought of starting up a network of my own, based on the ideals I see fit in a network... but I don't see what good it would do to further fragment the community. So now you're starting up a network while we already have atleast two I can think of. If your new network is a success, then I congratulate you. If it only brings further fragmentation, then shame on you. -- X |

In my case, I saw a failing network, obtained permission from the hub owners and took the reigns. Up until the Fall of 2001, it ran rather smooth. Quote:

Fall 1998 - World IMC Network (Co-started by Me) Summer 2002 - Mud2Mud Network took control of the WIN (Trax & Samson) Spring 2003 - MudWorld affiliates decided they wanted to become a private network, seperating from the Mud2Mud Network. I think this is about right, Samson can feel free to give more accurrate dates. Feel free to ask questions. I run this forum, so provided Sy does not kill it, I will keep this conversation going. |

Anyway. More or less accurate timeline, though I'd adjust it to late winter of 2002 for the MW split. At least at the time it was finally made official. There were also operators prior to 1998 but right now I don't have the specifics in front of me. |

Ahh, it has been that long... wow.
!998 was the IMC2.NETwork I have that site archived on MudWorld. Wisdom and Spectre ran and devopled the code at that point. Hubs were maintained by Wisdom, Trax, GreyWolf and Defiant. |
