This is a discussion on "Question about LPUniversity" in the Top Mud Sites MUD Announcements forum : I'm responding to a question from another thread here. This is to avoid hijacking Alexander Tau's announcement. Shadowfyr, Tacitus, the head of lpu, has announced he's retiring from mudding and closing LPUniversity. lpmuds.net was not intended to be a replacement for lpu... I was looking for them to be complementary sites, like tms and tmc. However, since lpu appears to be down for the count, you can look at lpmuds.net as the current standard bearer for general LP promotion and discussion. This is to avoid hijacking Alexander Tau's announcement. People still have hope Tacitus will come around. It's early days yet, I think. As far as I know, the mudlib (codebase) named LPUniversity has also stopped development. I could be mistaken. There will be a meeting this sunday of former LPU stakeholders where I presume they will decide what direction, if any, to carry on their projects. LPUniversity may open again in some form. For his specific statements on the matter, please see the link announced on this page: http://lpmuds.net/forum/index.php?webtag=LPC&msg=53.1 Normally I wouldn't presume to speak for him, but he's made it clear he doesn't think he's coming back, and it's a fair question, so I'm answering it as well as I can. I invite Tacitus to respond here, to clarify his position. -Crat |

Also remember there is a LPC/LPMud link repository for drivers, mudlibs, code snippets, etc at http://lpmud.murpe.com/ as well.

And it's a great resource. I'm sorry to have omitted it, Murpe!

That's horrible news! I guess we'll just have to keep poking Tacitus on the intarmuds

Thanks. I had some hopes of the site, since trying to find code on some things is almost as bad as trying to understand the hackerish instruction manuals on others, in that both tend to assume if you are using X, you already know how to use X. Bloody wish some clowns, like the people making libraries for Lua would get their heads out of the sand and realize that more people would use them "if" they didn't have to recompile every version, and hope there are no sudden incompatibilities...
In any case, finding "specific" code for muds, you can do, finding "general" code, even if it would require some minor changes to use every place... Forget it. lol Where definitely some posts on there I hope someone has archived someplace else though, otherwise people might as well not have even bothers posting the code for those things. |

Shadowfyr,
From what I've seen, I got the general drift that Tacitus extracted the old data from the site and would be able to make it available. I hope that is the case, and that he's willing to do that. As to the general code discussion you're talking about, this is one of the things we're working on lpmuds.net/forum/ to do. Right now it's pretty specific to DS for the most part, because right this minute that's the bulk of the user base there. But lpc code is quite intelligible between libs, I think, and so I think it's still useful. -Crat http://lpmuds.net/forum/ |

Hey Everyone,
After a meeting last week, we've decided to keep LPUniversity running with a few internal changes. I'm hapy to announce that LPUniversity is now back up and ready to roll with our new website on a much more stable host at lpuni.org Hope to see you all there, Cody A.W. Somerville P.S. I forgot to mention that we're looking for a few good individuals to join our team. If you are interested, please visit our website and/or send me an e-mail at cody.somerville@lpuni.org for more details. |
