Greetings,

I'm working on Brody's MUD Index 2002, a directory of text-based games that will be published in trade paperback through iUniverse later this year, and will be available at Amazon.com and (I'm hoping) a few brick and mortar bookstores.

This is in no way meant to compete with TMS - in fact, I plan to list TMS as a MUD resource in it! Mostly, it's just a book I want to put together on an annual basis that offers a portable resource of MUD information.

The basic listings are free. They'll be in alphabetical order. You can submit your game through my website at http://www.jointhesaga.com/mudindex.htm.

Enhanced listings and display ads (business card-size) are available for a fee to help subsidize the cost of publishing the book - but I'll publish this whether we sell any ads or enhanced listings or not

The deadline for submissions is July 31, 2002.

It would be helpful if on you listed whether enhanced listings will be black and white or color.

I would assume black and white, some people would assume color though. Things made to print in color can look terrible when printed in black and white.

Is your target audience players or players and administrators? I run a mud resource, but if players alone are the audience, it would not be appropriate. Can resources get listed?

Enhanced and display ads will be black and white. Color process costs far too much for me to ask so little

I've added a PDF file that gives sample listings, plain and enhanced, as well as sample display ads. These aren't going to be slick, magazine-style ads, but they also won't cost so much if people choose to get them.

I submitted DartMUD's listing on behalf of our admin a month ago but he says that he has yet to receive the confirmation email. Should I try submitting again?

Quick update: I've been busily compiling the list of the games that have submitted. During the next week, I'll be sending out the confirmation emails to folks. Remember: The deadline for submissions is July 31. The link to submit your game is http://www.jointhesaga.com/mudindex.htm.

Re: Dre's question about seeing who's on the list already: No, that's really rather the point of compiling the index ;). I am giving extra publicity to games that help underwrite the book's publication by buying ads, however.

Also, if you want additional publicity for your game, I've started a new links page at OtherSpace, which you can reach at http://www.jointhesaga.com/mythreads/index.php3. I've got a section set aside specifically for Other MU*s and MUD resources.

Just to let folks know, the MU* submission deadline for Brody's MUD Index 2002 is changing. Sort of. The deadline for games that want to get plain listings in the book must submit by July 31. But games that want enhanced listings or display ads have until Sept. 1.
