LOL, I love this article. It is really great and well-written. hehe. Gets the point across but definitely with humor. I am still chuckling after reading it.
It calls to mind the idea of what if's.... what if the players gave up and failed...should we take the MUD down for a week, or hehe, better yet, "if you all don't do this" the world will really be destroyed and we'll pwipe. Would definitely up the stakes. Too bad most people would just then pack up and go on to another MUD. (chuckles gleefully at that above thoughts though) |

Well, destruction is a better part of fantasy. I mean, cities get sacked, woods get burned down because of war and fire-weapons/dragon. Space stations get blasted out of orbit and lots of other stuff get blown up, shot to pieces or otherwise horribly destroyed.
I think that on the larger MUD, people must be willing to sacrifice certain areas/towns/cities to "evil" forces. A nice example from RoD is Thalos, which is (I think) a stock area with a few MUD engines. It's a wonderfull town which has been thoroughly blown to bits. Of course, areas will need to be rebuilt. This will require allot of effort andpotentially, even more RP as people will have to aqquire the money and materials to rebuilt the area. (This is also a nifty excuse for repairing an area of typos and other assorted bad stuff.) |
