Ten Years of Iron Realms Entertainment

September 9th, 2007 will mark ten years of Iron Realms Entertainment, its seed first planted with the opening of Achaea in 1997. Time flies, and in ten short years, IRE now has four MUDs, another in development, and our first graphical MMORPG - Earth Eternal - on the horizon. Iron Realms has grown into the most successful new text MUD company of the last decade and to thank you, the players who made this possible, for the next month IRE will be celebrating this landmark with a variety of games, contests, and events across all of our realms.

Here are some IRE events you can look forward to:

Credit Bonus

What is an IRE celebration without a nice, juicy credit bonus? It doesn't get much bigger than 30%. That means, until the end of September, any character purchasing a credit package will get 30% more credits. So, if you order 100 credits, you get 30 extra. If you order 1000 credits, you get 300 extra. A 2000 credit package will get you a whopping 600 extra credits! Imagine the possibilities!

5% Experience Bonus

Love bashing? Want levels faster? Then your time has come! The next month will be filled with endless joy as you gain 5% more experience while bashing. Denizens of the land are already quaking with this knowledge, cowering under beds and hiding in caves. No mercy! Find them, drag them out, and explain that you must take advantage of this limited opportunity.

Pillaging the countryside not really your style? Never fear, this increase will cover all experience gained from questing as well.

Ironbeard Sightings

Rumours abound of a cheerful, slightly inebriated dwarf roving the lands. It’s said he has hidden a cache of wonderful gifts within his mighty beard, delivering them to to adventurers great and small, young and old. Adventurers that more time spent in the land will increase your chances of meeting this magnanimous individual who has gifts for all. Some have reported being gifted as much as 80,000+ gold, minor artefacts, and more.

Essay Contest

How do you fight in a text game? With words silly! Epic battles of wit are on the horizon with this writing contest. The action begins immediately and will come to an end on September 1st. Winners will be announced on the 9th. 10 overall, IRE winners will be decided, with first place receiving 2000 credits. From that point the top winners will get 1500, 1000, 750, 500, 250, 200, 150, 100, and 50 credit prizes.

Allowed Topics What you love most about your favorite Iron Realms MUD and why.
A defining moment or series of events for your character in an Iron Realms MUD.

Other Rules Your essay must be less then 1000 words.
Mail the finished essay to essays@ironrealms.com. Make sure to include your character and game name.

Lottery

Ok, Mister Moneybags. Do you have a huge bank account and nothing left to spend it on? Do you lay awake at night in your 250-room castle fretting about all that gold? Give it to the poor? Universal health care for underage goblins? Not a chance! Spend it on lottery tickets! All IRE games will begin a lottery on August 27th, with the drawings to be held on September 9th. Each game will have 5 winners with 1000, 800, 600, 400, and 200 credit prizes.

September 9th

When the big day arrives in all its glory, what can you expect? Treasure hunts, gift bags, games, events, and lots of fun surprises are planned for those who are in-world. You won't want to miss out on this special day!

Individual Games

Aside from the exciting IRE-wide events, individual games will be hosting several events. Here are some that are coming up over the month. Check with the games to get more information and exact starting times.

Imperian: The Sundered Heavens

August 11: Scavenger Hunt
August 18: Profession Freeforalls

September 1st: Guild vs Guild Capture the Flag

Lusternia, Age of Ascension

August 12: Wild Nodes with commodity prizes and 25k power to winner
August 12: Hamster Hunt with gold prizes

September 2: Scavenger Hunt with credit prizes

Thanks! I remember when I started I figured we'd have five years before text MUDs were dead. I am very pleased I was completely incorrect.

I did not even know that existed frankly.

I tried it out and entered some events but I don't think it's something we'd keep updated with events. It's kind of tedious to make both a forum post and a calendar post for an event. It's also one of those things where the more used/promoted it is the less useful it probably actually is since once you get more than 4 events in a day (look at the 11th of August for instance) the default calendar view stops showing you individual events and individual events get lost in the spam.

I can't imagine too many people check out the calendar either.

Wow, its been ten years. Wow, I feel old. I remember I played Achaea and Imperian on their opening days. And Lusternia when it was open beta. I wish I would have stumbled onto this post earlier, I would have logged on for a few during the celebrations.

Anyway, Congratulations!
