This is a discussion on "Adding new zones" in the Top Mud Sites MUD Coding forum : Ok. SMAUG code base and I'm using the "area editor" to make my zone. I tried to add it but the thing just crashes after I click on src and it starts to boot up. It said something about a nvumb that was the same but I'm sure thats not what it is. Is there some kind of "Max area" thing I need to edit? It seems like every time I try to edit something in the mud the danged thing crashes!... |

Do you mean vnums? Well, it may be that there is a vnum conflict. Remove the area as step one. Start the MU* up again and use the checkvnums command to find any conflict. It should look something like this.... checkvnums mob/area/object/all 100 200. 100 is the start and 200 is the end. *100-200 are just used for an example* Write down the vnums from the area you removed and check them against vnums that are already running using the above command. Once you have found the conflict I recommend using the latest copy of ORB to renumber the file in conflict. I hope this was some help to you.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. What is ORB though?

Heya.
ORB means Offline Room Builder. As the name says, you can build rooms offline. It has a nifty little function for renumbering the vnums. The Link for Orb: http://www.shadow-lands.com/orb/ I also think that if you like what you see in an Offline Room Creator, then check out a program called Area Editor. It costs a bit if you'd like to register, but you can use it for free for as long as you want. http://www.gammon.com.au |
