Does anyone know if there's any free downloadable mud lists available that could be used in e.g a MUD client? For example the MudMagic website used to allow you to download the entire mud list through xml/rss.

If you do find one I would certainly purge it from all the inactive MUDs out there. TMS and TMC have 1000's listed but I'd be suprised if more than 100 had anyone on them.

Not sure if you've read Raph Koster's MMO long tails article, but he made some interesting observations about playerbases sizes on muds and MMOs.

If you check out MudStats, you'll see his article is spot on - the rank 100 mud has an average of 18 players (over a 30 day period). By rank 200 it's down to an average of 9 players, while rank 300 is on 5 players, rank 400 is on 3 players and rank 500 is on 1.

Yeah, I've been to Mudstats and verified its listings before with complete inaccuracy. I'm not sure where they get their numbers but when I verified them they were off by huge numbers on every mud I checked (some even by 100's) which was everyone in the top 20.
