This is a discussion on "Eq Search?" in the Top Mud Sites MUD and RPG Webmasters forum : I'd like to add an eq search to my clan's web page, but I'm not sure how. I saw one on Ecke's Burning mud site, but I have been unable to contact him. I'm not sure if he wrote the asp script himself, or if he downloaded it. If someone knows where I can download this script, I'd be most pleased. I do have some basic experience in asp programming.... |

Will you be able to use a database for your pages?

Yes, I can add it to my page.
The searching is similar to an advanced search engine. It's an asp script that look similar to the search engine forms at places like google. In the script that I saw on Ecke's site, you enter a level range and your class and the script returns the eq that you can wear. I do have my own large database of eq from the mud I play, Wizard's Realm bt5.iwvisp.com 6667 |

Sounds like some easy PHP or ASP coding. If you got a PHP host and a MySQL database where everything is neatly in, then try www.devshed.com or www.php.net for further info about setting up the search engine. If you got ASP with an MS database, then you need to ask around some more because I barely know anything about ASP, sorry.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking into PHP now. Originally, (since I don't have Access) I planned to use a text database being searched with an ASP script. I just found that my choice server doesn't support ASP
*sigh* Gotta learn another computing language... |

I have made two web sites for my MUD. One, a list of all of this certain item and their locations. Two, the locations and skill taught by all the different trainers in our MUD. What I have always done is just made indiviual pages for each item, or a page for the certain type of trainers. Certainly I wouldn't have a new page for every sword in the game, but like a page with all the swords on it.
Just a idea to help you along. Plus, anybody finds an easier way to do this, tell me! |

While making a database would probly be the best way to go, there are different ways of doing it. I just wrote a script to search the help files in my mud for a keyword specified w/o making a database. Instead I simply used the help file format for the search and display. It was easily created with a perl script..the script itself however is 12kbs...but that doesnt matter.
Take up a few tutorials on CGI/Perl scripting, an excellent site to look through is, http://cgi.resourceindex.com/ |

That's what I have now, but it's actually pretty long, and takes a lot of time to sift through. I RP as a merchant on this mud, and I sell the best eq for each level. Speed is nice. Thanks for your help, everyone. I'm still working on it. |
