How can I get myself more familular with a certain codebase and how it works? Is there a program or something that provides tutorials that is available for download or something? Thanks for any help in advance!...

Depends on your goal. Are you wanting to build a MUD? Become a coder of one? Become a programmer in general?

There are many threads here that point to assistance in all of these areas. I would start with the threads under the heading MUD Development and Administration.

For now I am only interested in becoming a coder. I am currently trying to get very proficient with Java programming.

You could give CoffeeMUD a try. Download available at SourceForge. And a Yahoo Group for questions.

I have heard cool things about CoffeeMud but never really looked into the code myself.
