What I am looking for in a MUD is:

PvP allowed - Racial and religious conflicts are great.
RP enforced or at least RP encouraged.
Full array of races, classes, and gods to choose from.
A custom FE that displays directional compass and health bars.
Player run groups IE. Temples, government etc...
Newbie friendly, I'm not new to MUDS but I prefer one easy to learn.
Maps, I hate playing MUDS where I have no access to maps to find my way around.
Active staff members. Scenarios, peddles, festivals etc...

I've played extensively on Dragon's Gate, Dragonrealms and most recently, Isles of Aedin.

My suggestions are as follows in no particular order:

Threshold for the full array of gods and religions, they are the best at that.
Materia Magica for client and maps.
God Wars II for the most robust PVP

If you can live with in game maps and online global maps (or your own mushclient or other client self created maps), New Worlds Ateraan has everything else you are asking for.

We're relatively new, but we'd love for you to check out Primordiax.

Our combat and crafting is very different from Dragon's Gate and Dragonrealms, but hopefully, we can still appeal to you with several of our unique systems.
