Has anyone else thought that the Achaea ad (the one that says, "You know you want it" and features three female creatures) is basically an advertisement for MUDsexers? There's also a similar one for Imperian ("Whatever you do, don't play Imperian. It will steal your soul") featuring a mullet-haired guy and a girl that seems to hint at the same thing. Whether or not that was their intent, I will not speculate, but it just seems to scream, "Come play our MUD if you're interested in MUDsex." Just wondered if anyone else got that (accidently) humorous impression that they were peddling MUDsex, not gameplay.

Take care,

Jason

Oh, but we are! I'd be surprised to find muds without mudsex going on in them. Why hide it? Celebrate it! One of the cities in Achaea even has an NPC brothel with ladies of the night you can hire for sessions, who will react to what you do to them during your session (like kissing them, snuggling them, etc. The different ladies all have different 'personalities.' )

Hmm Matt, don't you need to have the game marked as "adult" game or something? Isn't it a law that adult material must be marked as adult material on the internet? "Enter here if you are above 18" sort of thing...

I mean it sounds close to being porn (just without the pictures):P hehe

Been thinking about stuff like this (too much brothel stuff etc) and too much blood and gore... when creating our commercial game maybe there are some laws we must follow?

I actually found the ad in question rather witty. It seemed to me more of a spoof on mudsex than anything else. Using the theme of the mud to create an almost centerfold-like ad to atteact new players.

Thumbs up to whoever developed it. I thought it was good.

Oh yes, though I'd be very surprised to find out we're the first.

Heh heh. As some of our players read this, all I'll say is that they shouldn't be surprised if they start catching them.

Well, as amusing as that would be, most of them prefer to have sex with other PCs rather than NPCs, where it kind of comes down to your, ah, descriptive ability. The STDs would be communicated via PC sex mainly most likely.

Naah, because we encourage people to experiment with their sexuality.

=) I know. I'm just trying to make a point: There's a range of goals for mud designers ranging from game-like (City of Heroes being extreme example) to world-like. I tend to prefer something more down the world-like path, and sex is a huge part of people's lives. No reason it can't be a big part of their virtual lives too!
