You have just started your mud, you have lots of cool ideas, you think you can go the distance and create a successful mud, but then reality sets in, and you have this huge world to create with only afew deticated individuals at your side. You attempt to advertise for builders on several differant forums within the community, this of course brings in a flux of "wanna-be" builders who just trash your vnums. How do you solve this problem, how do you attract the deticated and inclined and keep them on you mud? What are some of the things good builders look for in a mud in development?

Play for years and establish a network of PCs that you know are reliable, talented, and hard-working.  Then of course, hope that they're able to spend the time.  I'm facing the same problem right now.  I know many who fit those three categories, but many are unavailable due to time constrictions in the other aspects (gasp, something other than MUDs?) of their life.

If all else fails, advertise and screen them carefully to weed out the bad seeds.

Take care,

Jason

Weed them out, or buy them weed. I know that Lusternia pays builders with in game 'credits' that can be spent on skills for their characters.

That doesn't ensure that you'll attract good builders, especially when you're starting out the game and haven't a pbase to draw from.
