*puts on his moderator hat*

This is one of those times when saying nothing is preferable. It's the Advertising for Players forum. He asked for help in finding a MUD matching those criteria. Giving him attitude isn't helpful.

Re: looking

Take a look at Threshold. It has everything you are looking for.
Check us out :).

Normally I just lurk around here, but I have to say Threshold is exactly the MUD you're looking for based on the criteria you've posted.

Re: looking

Im not much of a forced rp type. any other games that at least have pay for perks. I like being able to improve my character via rl cash LOL

Re: looking

Unfortunately we're still waiting on the search option for that one, but here are three I know of (I'm assuming you already know about the four IRE games):

Cardea is a pay-for-perks Achaea-like mud.

BatMUD is a pay-for-perks LPmud.

Materia Magica is a pay-for-perks ROM-like mud.

dude, if you give me rl money, I'll get you to the top of the high score list in a very short time. That being said, it won't be in a way coded into the game. I can do it by virtue of knowing how to play. But, you'll be targeted/hunted by other(better) players who gain status by actually being good- no guarantees on how long you'd survive in that environment.. but I can get you there. heh.

Honestly, if you want to play a game where having more rl money than the other guy gives you a better chance of winning, try realestate or the stock market, though that requires at least a little iniative and intelligence(not saying that you have none).

You could also try MTGO(Magic The Gathering Online); the more money you have, the more cards you can buy and the better your chances will be at winning. Though digital goods are intangible and my personal preference is to win by skill not cash, I think you'd feel right at home there. there's even graphics somewhat, I think.

Too bad Halo 3 doesn't let you just buy your way to being good, right? :)

Re: looking

Wow, that raised my eyebrows. With attitude like that, lets hope No One touches / tries Deleraks mud again.

Does sound to me like Threshold will be a good starting point for you, though I never saw the tons of automated quests that are mentioned, just a handful of fixed ones. I did two which were fun, but the others needed me to be a much higher level which, considering my progress when I played would have taken months of play.

Materia Magica is also another one you should consider, though it is so huge, I never met a single other player when I left newbie village.

Re: looking

*laughs*

That was funny. I think Delerak was just saying that the fellow sounding rather immature and young and didn't want that type on his/her mud.

Nalog 11-19-2007 10:24 PM

Re: looking

I dont see how listing qualities of a mud can be contrived as being immature. I like the fact that a mud can be free to play but if youre willing to give some hard earned money you can give your character a little boost. I work 40+ hours a week, Im not some spoiled little rich kid. I work for my money and when I play a game I like to be able to feel like Im giving something back.

Re: looking

Perhaps you are right. I was just guessing a motive. On NW, we find that most the new players that come to the game that aren't looking to roleplay but just hack and slash and find the uber sword are usually youngins, that's all.

Happy mudding!

Re: looking

Although the donation features don't give you a huge benefit (although I could be mistaken), Aardwolf has everything else that you're looking for in abundance.

Re: looking

My post was in reference to the OP wanting to use money to get ahead on a game. Something I really don't agree with. And the way he listed what he wanted from a mud, clearly shows that he would not fit in or belong on an RPI, that's all really. I guess in hindsight it sounded blunt, but his post was somewhat blunt as well.

kaleo 11-20-2007 04:04 PM

Re: looking

his post wasn't blunt, you were just being a jerk! I would be dissuaded from your mud if I knew how mean the players are. If I were you, you should start being nice! jeez!

Delerak 11-20-2007 05:17 PM

Re: looking

You're right, I should be more nice so I can draw players to my mud that I don't want there in the first place? That doesn't make any sense. RPI's garner to a certain type of player, and by the looks of your home MUDs you wouldn't fit in at an RPI either.

Re: looking

Yes, well, do keep in mind that the audience you're reaching with your attitude isn't just the ones you don't want - it's the ones you do, too. Ratchet it down a notch. When you post a recruiting ad for your game, specify all you want that you don't want his kind. But when he's asking for recommendations - silence does wonders if you don't want to invite him.

Delerak 11-20-2007 06:17 PM

Re: looking

Well my original post was semi-satirical, and semi-sarcastic, but it did have some truth to it. I'll keep it in mind, it's hard for me not to reply though.
