The Burning Post II, a MUD for RP

A small, battle-worn Lithmorran outpost set in the stormy waters of the Kirulean Sea, New Yarsith was ravaged for years by the Great War that raged between the duchies of Lithmore and the merchant-led Vavardi. Our story begins several years after the war, in an era of tenuous peace punctured by hostility and tension between the victorious Lithmorrans and the few Vavardi that remain on the island. Further conflict emerges from the centuries-long quest of the Holy Order of Dav to eradicate all magery, consigning mages to the pyre that they may be cleansed of the taint within. The mages themselves unite in hidden covens, teaching the secrets of the dark arts, that Thandok's legacy might not go forgotten.

This is the world of Burning Post, a RP-enforced MUD set in a period similar to the late middle-ages. While the theme has been applied to a few different MUDs (Inquisition), I've never seen the same potential as I do with BurP II. There small group of dedicated staff work extremely hard to keep the game interesting for players. They work closely with the player base in as unbiased a fashion as I've ever seen on any MUD or MUSH (oh man, we all know that 'favorites' game that some staffers play). The staff make it extremely easy to hold player-run events, while they pull the strings on some of the plots, taking them towards staff-run events.

Creating your character's story is as easy as eating pie, while having a small playerbase (nearing twenty players on some days) insures that there are a variety of roles to fill.

Recent happenings:
~The Baronetess of New Yarsith has fled the island after being personally attacked while giving an announcement to the populace. Reportedly, her husband, Kimhyn, was in tow.

~A heretic and supposed Weaver of Shadows by the name of Daren was re-arrested, hung, and summarily burnt to a crisp, a firm reminder to not stray from the path of justice and Davlyness.

~The contract for the Mercenary's Chapter of New Yarsith was dissolved at the will of former Baronetess Irene ab Schmendrick. They still operate independently on the island.

~Several houses have been repossessed by the Reeves of New Yarsith. They are now for sale to the populace.

~Baron Riryn ab Gustave has taken over as Baronet of New Yarsith!

A general revising of the way that guilds work has just been implemented. Now is as good a time as any to roll a character and enter the world of New Yarsith.

Update:

The dreaded arch-mage Variel dul Aturea has been brought to an end at the hands of the Knights. New Yarsith is still aflame with apprehension at the mage's foul deeds - people talk in hushed rumors about the walls of ice that he could conjure across a street's width, or how he flung a Deaconess into the Abyss. Certainly these tales have become the things of bedtime tales, told to children in the dark hours to bid them away from evil and to always say their prayers before bed. Variel's half-dead person was summarily burnt on the pyre, giving his tainted soul passage to Paradise. Dav bless.

The mage Leon, who had escaped imprisonment for so long, was also caught. Unfortunately, Leon died before they could get him to the pyre, and tragically his soul will forever lay in the Abyss for demons to gnaw upon. Tasty.

Many new changes have been made to the code, including a general cleanup that will allow for faster changes in the future to the game. New spells have been added in, as well as herbs that you can crumple in your hands and toss into the faces of others in hopes that they'll end up inhaling it and reaping the affects - which can have a drastic affect on combat. Also, a publicity code went in - now when violence is committed in the middle of daylight on Main Street you can be sure that the proper authorities will hear about it right quick. Finally, conscription came into play - guild leaders can now call a few NPCs from their guild to assist them in combat, or in arresting a criminal.

With the call sent out for crafters throughout New Yarsith, now would be as good a time as any to create one and help the town's economy to grow. So come on down and be a part of our evolving story. We've got ten to twenty excellent RPers on at peak times so you'll be involved in no time!

I used to play BP... then my IP got blocked. Don't know why. If any of the players remember Daren? The former Weaver of Shadows awhile back? Orphy, you might remember me. Mind just... unbanning my IP?
