There are a few things I've never seen in a MUD/MUSH, etc. etc. Has anyone ever seen a class or an attribute that supported cripples?

Yeah, I've seen muds that support coded handicaps: missing eyes, missing legs, missing hands, missing arms, deafness, muteness, etc. I think these were all RP-PK muds.

Daedal Macarbre is the only one I've seen that has things like what Burr said...heh, 1-eared is fun...you can't understand what people say half the time, and playing an evil demon character you get to turn around and say "WHAT DID YOU SAY, MORTAL?! TALKING BEHIND MY BACK ARE YOU?!"

I once played on a RP mud and created an old human. He was around 65. I noticed, strangely, that no one seemed to be saying anything, or replying to me when I spoke to them.

Odd.

Then I heard someone shout and I realized I was hard of hearing.

shout What? I can't hear you! Speak up, Sonny!

Pretty funny.

Since we are an enforced rp game we allow the players to chose whatever handicap they want. Some are coded, like deafness and unability to speak, but others are free to play out within your character. Also, vision and ability to hear decreases the older you get.

Here's something interesting that I was told by my optomitrist:  very long-lived, near-sighted people start to see an improvement in their vision towards the end of their life.  In theory, if they lived long enough, their vision would return to normal.  It certanily would be interesting to research because some races are long-lived.  Of course they have different longevity issues at different ages anyway.
