I've been playing an LPMud on and off for the last 5 years and love it.

I run a play-by-post roleplaying forum at that has a lot of detail (it's been live for a couple years now), and I'd like to expand the setting by offering a MUD environment.

I know there are a ton of different muds out there. The only one I've used is LPMud (as a player, not a coder).

I do have a decent amount of experience with Java, PHP, and Perl coding (about 6 years) so I'm fairly sure I'll be able to learn what needs to happen to do this.

What I'd like help with is figuring out how to get off of sqaure one... like where to get the initial codebase, what needs to happen to install it, etc.

I have a dedicated linux (fedora) webserver that I can host this on, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

I recommend that you take a look at the LPMud Resource and Reference site. It has several drivers, mudlibs, documents and snippets.

If you have experience coding in Java you may want to check out CoffeeMud Codebase (by Bo Zimmerman).

He should be releasing version 5.0 in a day or so, but you may want to go with a slightly older version that has went through review.

There is a Yahoo group ( ) where information and help with issues are easy to find.

Feel free to post back with any issues if you decide to use it.

I will be doing a complete overhaul of the combat system to suit my needs in the next few weeks so I should be able to help with questions related to the codebase.

Hope you find it helpful.
