Looking for new home!

Greeting people of the mud! I've recently been away from mud,and now I am searching for a new home. I've been searching for a few months now and I"m having trouble finding a MUD that I can stick with. Maybe I'm just not patient enough. But if you could help me out that would be great!!

**Some things that throw me off of a MUD right away:

**Colourful Mud,like colored equipment! (its a must!)

**Pet based class,or have a good pet/mercenary based system that can use skills,magic.. not just following around and auto assist (its a must!)

*Automap Easy to navigate around(this is optional)

**Proccing equipment, weapon (this will turm me on,but its optional)

**Non rp/optional ( I dont rp)

**Can Multiclass (optional)

**Crafting system (optional)

I think that's most of it. If you can suggest a MUD that fits some of these I would appreciate it. Thanks!

RetroMUD, ZombieMUD, and BatMUD all seem to be what you are looking for.

ZombieMUD isn't very colorful, but BatMUD is.

RetroMUD reworked their necromancer guild a couple years ago and it's a lot better (but complicated). I know that ZombieMUD has pets in different classes and I think there's a necromancer class, and BatMUD might have a pet system but I never tried it.

RetroMUD has classes, skills, and spells for modifying equipment. The Elementalist guild (classes are called guilds) can add nonphysical damage to weapons using fundamentals, and there are different spells and skills scattered among the different classes for doing stuff to weapons. Paladins can buff their armor and weapons, and there are spells which prevent weapons from being dropped or stop armor from breaking. I'm pretty sure that BatMUD has similar things, and ZombieMUD also, as all three have a lot of similarities to each other.

RetroMUD and BatMUD have multiclassing based on your starting class. I'm not too familiar with ZombieMUD but I imagine it's similar.

All three have automaps, or at least city maps that can be accessed with a command.

BatMUD and RetroMUD have crafting classes. The Merchants guild in RetroMUD is an entire class that is all about crafting, though the best armor and weapons come from boss runs.

I think you should try 4 Dimensions, we fit most of your requirements.

If you use our custom client app, that you can download from our website, you get a graphic sidebar map, which I myself find fantastic, (I'm dyslectic, so I get lost easily without a map). We also have automaps, for those who prefer to mud without our client.

I think you'd like out Golems. They are an advanced type of pets, that you can carry around in your pocket, but if you drop them on the floor, they start following you and doing your bidding. They can wear equipment and use spells. When you leave the Mud, you can pick them up again, to keep them safe. They are trainable too, so they get stronger and stronger, if you let them help you in fights. Right now we only have two types, but we're working on more. We're also planning dragon mounts, of a similar, trainable type, (except that you cannot put those in the pocket).

Colourful - sure. Our Builders try to use colour in a sensible way, to make it easier to spot different things. Our players sometimes get a bit wild with their customized equipment, but if they like looking like Christmas trees, let them. :D

PK is optional in 4D, so is RP.

We have a very large world - or rather 4 worlds, since our theme is Time Travel. We also have a lot of fun gadgets, one of the more popular ones is a Magic Return Wand, which will remember your location, if you drop it on the floor, and then bring you back there in a few seconds, when you wish to return later. Like most of our good stuff, this is a Quest Reward, 4D has lots of built in Quests, and most of the best equipment you get from those.

Anyhow - I think you should try it. :)

(godwars2.org 3000) fulfills your requirements as follows:

1. Customisable colour scheme, using extended colour (if your client supports it). Equipment names are colour-coded to indicate magic type/rarity - and they're also clickable links, if your client supports MXP, so you can pick up items by clicking on them with your mouse.

2. Most classes can summon pets and/or mounts. For example a demon can summon a warbeast (which serves as a mount), an imp (which casts spells, and can sit on your shoulder if you wish) and a hellhound pup (although it grows and becomes stronger as it kills things). Later, the demon might unlock the Hellhound warp (warps allow customised shapechanging), then take Lead the Pack, Pack Bond and Pack Rage - they can now shapechange into a hellhound and summon two more hellhounds as pets to assist them. They could even apply the warp to their imp, turning in into a tiny hellhound which stands on the player's back, occasionally flying off to scout the surrounding area.

3. There are ASCII maps or (if you use Mudlet or the ) graphical ones - see , and .

4. By "proccing" I assume you're referring to weapons that do special things under certain conditions? Every weapon has its own set of moves and combos, so (as a random example) if you're using a whip you can use it to disarm someone, trip them, temporarily deafen them, etc. Magic items also have various random abilities, such as bursts (a chance of a secondary attack, such as electrocuting someone you've just stabbed), and can be customised through various means.

5. It's a non-roleplaying mud.

6. Although you can only pick one of the six classes, it's possible to have minor abilities from other classes by taking the appropriate talents - for example a vampire might take Desert Wolfkin (technically a werewolf talent) to enhance their wolf form, or Magically Gifted (technically a mage talent) to increase their spellcasting ability. In addition, there are over 300 subclasses representing specialised builds, for example a dragon might branch off into wyvern, hydra, serpent, dracolich, etc, while a titan might become a storm giant, wendigo, cyclops, ettin, and so on.

7. The basic crafting system is pretty simple - some monsters drop fragments of raw material, which you can convert into an item of your choice. However there are also various ways to further customise gear, for example a werewolf might use Moon Weaving or Lunar Forging to transform an item and then enhance it, or Spirit Binding to add additional bonuses to certain equipment, or Fang Forging to collect teeth and fangs from their enemies, forging them into necklaces and bracelets, and so on. There are also epic items which are particularly potent (although each player can only use one at a time), and are customised rather than being randomly generated.

Tuah, you might want to give Alter Aeon a try. We've got a lot of what you're looking for - we're not RP, have one of the best multiclassing systems out there, have a good minion system, and are fairly colorful. We've also got an awesome custom client with a built in mapper, health bars, and other features.

Some screenshots of the client can be found at:

Good luck!

By the way, I'm a MU* migrant. I've played many different games over the years (including most of the recommendations here), and I'm not posting in your thread because I have a duty to promote my own game.

Just throwing that out there.

Re: Looking for new home!

I have know most of the games posted here and the Admins that run them and would add that they are each very different in their own ways and very fun for their differences. I will add one more to the list and post the recommendations in this order (no particular preference):

1. Materia Magica: Very hack and slash and fun because of that.
2. God Wars II: More of a PK Mud, but my GOSH the admin/coder has made some great in depth code.
3. 4 Dimensions: Molly is a gem of an admin, and her game is incredible with its unique style and quests. (Probably the best for players who like quest/riddles).
4. Alter Aeon: Another good game with a good admin.

There you have it. Try these four and see where it takes you.
