which muds have those maps? i'm looking for a mud and decided I can't live without them

Godwars II sort of has them, as does Assault. Actually, quite a few have a similar sort of overland map deal, though I've never seen one which is identical to nethack. GWII does have randomly generated dungeons similar to nethack though. Unfortunately the movement system in GWII is a touch bizarre.

A lot of muds have overhead maps - and there are several snippets which offer variations, too, so it's pretty much a "stock" feature.
Only if you're used to room-based movement. I remember the movement in and felt pretty bizarre at first, as I was too used to playing games like and , where movement consisted of turning exactly 90 degrees at a time, and instantly moving distances of several feet every time you pressed forwards. After getting used to the Wolfenstein 3D style of movement, however, I found it very difficult to go back to the old Dungeon Master style of movement. And I've found the same is true of coordinate-based vs room-based movement. |
Wilderness maps are quite common, but the only mud I've seen that really had a nethack feel to it was Feltain. Unfortunately, it's closed down some time ago.

Very good mapping system, I guess it is comparable to the non-tile (ASCII?) mapping system in nethack. I play nethack with tiles though. |
