Java Script or MUD Script..Which would be better?

I'm with a start up RPG, and the leader has decided to go with Java rather than with MUD Programming.

Is this good or bad?

Will it effect the quailiuty of the gaming exsperience for better or worse?

I pose this question to those who know more than I do....At this time.

Surely you mean he's using Java for his mud programming?

Java is perfectly fine, there are already a fair few muds written in Java. However you referred to JavaScript in your subject - I wouldn't suggest using JavaScript for writing a mud server.

No, the language is just a tool. You won't notice the difference unless you're working on the code.

You're being a little unclear about things. First, Java and JavaScript are two extremely different languages, but you use the terms interchangeably. Mud Programming means nothing. Muds are usually written in C or LPC, with Java, C++, and Python as runners up.

None of the above. Each of these is a mature programming language. The skill and imagination of the developer(s) mean much more than the specific language choice.

EDIT: I'll agree that JavaScript would be a less than ideal choice, if only because most or all implementations are tailored to life inside a web browser.

I think it is fine. I think CoffeMud does this.

She wants to go with a Java based code...

I'll look it up so to be clearer, but thank you for the clarification.

Nothing wrong with that, might end up quite good.

I think it really depends on what you want to do. Knowing nothing about your game, I can't really comment on what language you want to use, but I can say that if your coder understands your game design and what you hope to accomplish with your mud, it's best to go with what the head coder recommends. Have faith in your people!

The Game is to be a Social/Adventure style where one can aceve 'success' either by Social Interaction or Adventuring.

Both have their risks; botching an important social matter can get your character scroned by those he/she was seeking to impress (and possibly set up for a fall afterwards), whicle those adventuring run the risk of getting killed or siezed by a insane spirit said to be roaming the far mountain passages of an ancient long-dead civilization.

In this, they can play practictly anything with reguards to carrier and character type with in a Midevial-setting.
What I mean is the player can run with D&D characters, or, possibly choose a modern even futuristic character--even a furry (Im pushing for these), and each will have their plus' and minus' to deal with.

I'm sorry for being so late with an answer...

That's fine. None of that has much to do with how the game is implemented. Java is a popular language for programming internet applications so if your coder wants to use that, it will be a reasonable choice.
