This is a discussion on "Lanfear, and other uber-women" in the Top Mud Sites Roleplaying and Storytelling forum : So, why, in every series, must there be one of those 'most beautiful woman ever and strongest to ever exist in insert area here'? Lanfear in Jordan, Polgara in Eddings, and we could probably go on. So, why the need for this uber vamp? I was just recently asked to RP Lanfear on a WoT MUSH (I'm still so proud ) and I just realized, as I was talking to some of the other people, that Lanfear falls into that category of perfection so often seen.... |

Lanfear is an archetypical descendent of Artemis (especially building on Selene). The role of Artemis was highly influenced by male passions. Hunting, sexy virgins, etc. The fact that she will likely decide to hunt you down and kill you just makes it all the more exciting.

Ehh...I'd say Polgara's uber-beautiful and uber-powerful because 1) she's the disciple of a god and the daughter of a sorcerer and a sorceress. The three combine to give her power and lots of it. 2) She went through a whole period of 'My sister is prettier then I am so what's the point in even trying to be pretty?' in her teens. Then she went from one extreme to the other. Also as a teen. As she got older, she got more beautiful (she is a sorceress. If she doesn't want to get wrinkles and become crone-like, she doesn't have to).
Anyways, Pol's far from perfect. She's got a full vocab of swear words, she's stolen, she's dug up dead bodies, she's been a Nyssian dancer/slave/whatever you want to call it, she's turned people into snakes...I could go on and on and on and /on/. But I won't, since I need sleep. |
