Not quite true, nothing prevents web clients from being accessible for blind users, it's a question of design.
The fact is, pure telnet interface is a pain, and i can imagine it is even worse for the blind, as they rely on screen readers, so they are limited to sequential reading and must have difficulties navigating the wall of text back n forth.
Now notice that browsers can play sounds stored on the server, and imagine the possibilities for the blind players.
