With regret, I must agree with you, Threshold. When I look back at the best games this year, I'm left with quite a divergance from my usual CRPG tastes. Games like Maximo and Jedi Knight II caught my attention longer than MM9, Dungeon Siege and Tsugunai combined.
I'm in the swamp area of Dungeon Siege, and I just can't bring myself to push any further through this numbingly repetetive game. A pity; I was looking forward to this game as a child looks to Christmas.
The most humorous thing I remember reading about Icewind Dale II came from a developer's diary. Addressed to fans, it said, "You won't believe what [staffmember's name] has done with the spell icons! [staffmember's name] has really outdone himself this time!" I thought it was rather fitting =).
