Something I've encountered on another Ikonboard is an Archived Threads forum. Moderators can move interesting/insightful/informative topics there after some time has gone by - basically when the thread is dead. New threads can't be created there, nor can replies be posted to archived threads. It's been a very useful thing at times, as it prevents front-page clutter from pinned threads on other boards, and it allows regular pruning to occur.
I'm not sure if it'd be feasible or not, depending on data storage limits. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there.
