The only reason I seriously suggested developing one from scratch is because there are languages that make it easy to do so. Python is the one I know best, although there are many better than C, including Ruby, C#, Java, even Javascript...

If people want to make their lives harder by choosing a more difficult language to develop in, I'm fine with that. I just think it's time people realised that they could achieve a lot more with something other than C.
