Soul Mates uses a Token system to conduct transactions, so it doesn't cost money to use. It does cost Achaean gold, however, to purchase Tokens from Marc of Achaea using the free Soul Mates client (comes with download). Tokens cost 1 gold sovereign each (1000 Tokens = 1000 gold). "
Note that it's specifically only to be used for character dating, not players hooking up. Heh. *bemused*
