I suspect this is probably more due to the economy than anything else. There's been a pretty big drop in all forms of discretionary spending as people are losing jobs, getting behind on their bills, and tightening up wherever they can.

Though it is a bit odd for a host to just completely vanish like this without a word. Maybe there weren't any more accounts left to deal with?

BTW, unless something has drastically changed, 1.2GB file storage and 50MB of RAM should run every stock codebase and then some without even having to worry about it. You might consider that your situation isn't the norm, it's the extreme exception.
