Don't know about other MUDs that haven't been covered in this thread yet, but as for Realms of Despair, no, it does not allow any sort of purchaces of in-game items or other perks for out-of-game money.
In the past, there had been certain players who sold in-game equipment and characters for rl cash despite the rules of the game, but some time ago they were rather sternly asked to leave and never come back.
