Seems very odd. I would highly recommend not doing this unless they are changing the name for the new game or the functionality is so different it warrants another name. If that is the case use a new name.

Grab the bull by the horns and do a massive player wipe and start the new game. Surely a permadeath game can't be afraid of a little thing like playerwipe.
