Some suggestions:Writing the design document is slow process. I am on that stage right now . Basically you might write a few pages. Then the next day you look at it and realize how poor some of the things you wrote down actually are so you modify them, and so on.

It might also be good idea to write example log files showing how play in the MUD would appear to a player.
