Seraphina, this isn't a board about roleplaying games - it's a board about muds.
However as someone who also plays roleplaying games, I'd like to point out that within such games "challenge" certainly is a very important factor. I don't think my players would enjoy the game half as much if they didn't have to think, and didn't have any chance of dying.
I would say that the same applies to most muds as well.
