somethingawful.com, where the image was originally linked, knows of the wonders of mod_rewrite. When Wenlin linked that image, I'm 99% positive that the image was already in his cache, so he didn't get a terrible rewritten punishment image -- he got the original he was trying to link. So I really wouldn't blame Wenlin; he was not seeing what you all were seeing. People just need to be aware that hotlinking is considered a relatively rude thing to do, and some website operators act on this rudeness.
