The latest RC of mudlet 2 is supposed to support mxp but the only player I have that tried it had to go back to the old version as the MXP was screwing everything up.

Have you tried Zmud or Mushclient on wine? The last zmud version is free and supports mxp, and mushclient is free as well and supports it very well.
