7 branches? sounds like you live in a metropolitan area?

As dirty and noisy as Nyc tends to be, it's got a wonderful library system (nypl.org)... as long as you have a library card, you can download free e-books, audio online and get books from any borough branch except Brooklyn. I've decided to make one day every month a Library Day, a whole day of exploring a library branch and reading everything in sight. I hope e-readers utilize libraries in their development...
But one has to wonder whether modern libraries can rival the epitome of knowledge and enlightenment, that of the ancient library of Alexandria. Do they fulfill their job in making us enlightened citizens, or do they only brainwash our minds with cheap paperback fiction? (how many of them carry banned books?)
Who knows. *shrugs*
