Re: Looking for mostly stock SMAUG mud...

Well, I'll keep promoting ArcticMUD:

ArcticMUD doesn't actually belong to SMAUG family, but "Muds of the Diku family are likely to resemble each other more strongly than members of other families resemble each other." / (C)
Unless you really need some specific SMAUG features (which ones?), other DIKUs may do just as well.

Many pk logs are posted at

In one of them,

you may see the number of players on-line:
Total people online : 34

The MUD pwipes every year or two (all characters get deleted, everybody starts at lev1). The last pwipe was almost a year ago. If you try Arctic now and decide to stay, you're likely to have some time to get the idea of the game and after the wipe start on equal terms with everyone else. Until then, you may try to fight with one of the smaller clans - or grow big and powerful enough to attack one of the major ones.

> -Level based training and equipment system
Skill training and spells availability - yes. Most eq isn't level restricted, but every good item is limited. Only the highest chars may afford having the best items (and not lose them to pkill). There are many other things that affect item balance, too.

> -Quests available
More than one can solve. You will have to delegate exploring different parts of the quests to different members of your clan.

certainly

Yes, we would like to see more newbies around. However, Arctic is not for the weak of heart - anyone may kill you and, occasionally, you will be killed. You may ask the imms to help you with the commands or the concepts of the game (or post your questions on one of the boards in the game or on our forum at mud.arctic.org), but don't expect anyone to hold your hand or protect you from danger.

Take care,
