I started mudding in January 1992 after friends of mine told me about this cool thing one could do on the Internet (amongst others). They warned me it was really addictive though! Boy were they ever right. I set up my university shell account with aliases to telnet into muds I found on a mud list that I can't quite recall how I got. FTP perhaps. There was no web then if you can imagine. My first try was a place called Darker Realms. I know they're still up and I wish them all the best but I wasn't much impressed by the oldbies taking me to a emote room and then trying to trick me with emotes of X gives you 1,000,00 gold pieces. Yeah typos are hard to slide past me. <g> So I decided to pick a mud closer to home. That's Canada by the way. So I tried one called GateWay which turned out to be on the east coast. Hardly any closer than the Texas locale of DR. But here I found a vibrant and welcoming community including a fellow calling himself Skotos who took me under his wing. Recruited me into his guild of course and we had some great adventures for the next few years.
